Grief and Loss Counseling
You don't have to walk through grief alone.
The loss of someone you love, the end of a relationship, a major life transition, or the loss of something you deeply valued can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, angry, confused, or simply not like yourself.
Sometimes grief comes with tears. Sometimes it looks like numbness. Sometimes it looks like anger, anxiety, exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, or simply trying to get through the day.
How am I supposed to move forward when everything feels different now?
At HD Christian Family Counseling, we provide compassionate, professional counseling for individuals experiencing grief and loss. Our approach recognizes the connection between your emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual well-being.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.
You don’t have to rush your healing.
And you don’t have to grieve alone.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
Grief Doesn't Always Look the Way We Expect
When most people think about grief, they think about the death of a loved one. But grief can come after many different kinds of loss. You may be grieving:
- The death of a spouse, parent, child, family member, or friend
- The loss of a relationship or marriage
- Divorce or separation
- A miscarriage or pregnancy loss
- A significant change in family life
- A major health change
- A career or financial loss
- A move or major life transition
When Grief Starts Affecting Everyday Life
Grief can affect much more than your emotions. You may notice changes in:
Your thoughts
- Difficulty concentrating
- Constantly thinking about what happened
- Questioning the future
- Regret or guilt
- “What if” thoughts
- Difficulty making decisions
Your relationships
- Wanting to withdraw from others
- Feeling misunderstood
- Difficulty connecting with people
Your everyday life
- Changes in sleep and appetite
- Difficulty working
- Feeling like you’re simply going through the motions.
Christian Counseling for Grief & Loss
At HD Christian Family Counseling, Christian counseling can integrate your faith and spiritual values into the therapeutic process when you want that part of your life included. We don’t believe you have to choose between faith and mental health care. You can pray and seek counseling.
Our goal is not to rush you through grief or tell you how you should feel. Instead, counseling can provide a safe place to:
- Process your loss
- Work through difficult thoughts and feelings
- Work through guilt, anger, or unresolved feelings
- Develop healthy coping strategies
- Reconnect with relationships and everyday life
- Understand your emotions
- Explore questions surrounding your faith
- Learn how to care for yourself
- Adjust to life after your loss
- Explore what moving forward can look like without forgetting what you've lost
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It doesn’t mean that what happened no longer matters. It means learning how to carry your loss while continuing to live.
When Should I Consider Grief Counseling?
You don’t have to wait until your grief becomes unbearable before reaching out for help. Counseling may be helpful if:
- You're struggling with overwhelming sadness, anxiety, anger, or guilt
- You feel stuck in your grief
- Your faith has been deeply affected by your loss
- You don't feel like yourself anymore
- You feel like no one understands what you're going through
- Your grief is interfering with work, relationships, or daily responsibilities
- You feel isolated from the people around you
- You're struggling to adjust to life after a major loss
- You are having difficulty caring for yourself
- You simply want a safe place to process what happened
There is no requirement that your grief be “bad enough” before you deserve support.
Sometimes reaching out early can give you support while you’re learning how to navigate a new reality.
